Installing a computer-cut window tint kit is easier than hand-cutting film, but proper preparation, tools, and technique are still important for the best results.

Before You Begin

Professional installation is recommended, especially if you are new to window tinting. Pre-cut tint helps reduce cutting work, but installation still requires patience, clean glass, proper tools, and careful handling.

Before installing, make sure you have selected the correct vehicle information, including:

• Number of doors

• Tint shade or film option

Always inspect your tint kit before installation. Do not install any piece if you believe the wrong product was received.

Tools You May Need

Step 1: Clean the Glass Thoroughly

Clean glass is one of the most important parts of a successful tint installation.

Spray the window with your cleaning solution and remove dirt, dust, grease, stickers, and debris from the glass. Use a scraper blade carefully on glass surfaces where appropriate.

After cleaning, wipe the window edges, seals, and surrounding areas to help reduce contamination during installation.

Dust, dirt, or lint trapped under the film may cause bubbles, marks, or poor adhesion.

Step 2: Identify Each Pre-Cut Tint Piece

Before applying the film, carefully identify each pre-cut piece and match it to the correct window.

Lay the tint pieces on a clean surface and confirm:

• Driver side and passenger side pieces

• Front window pieces

• Rear window pieces

• Quarter glass pieces

• Back glass pieces

• Windshield strip, if included

Pre-cut tint patterns are vehicle-specific, so always test-fit the pieces before final installation.

Step 3: Prepare Your Slip Solution

A slip solution helps position the tint on the glass before squeegeeing it into place.

Use a clean spray bottle with a proper tint installation solution or a mild baby shampoo and water mixture. Do not use harsh chemicals, ammonia-based cleaners, or dirty water.

Spray the glass generously so the film can slide into position during installation.

Step 4: Remove the Liner Carefully

Window tint film has a protective liner that must be removed before installation.

As you peel the liner away, spray the adhesive side of the film with your slip solution. This helps prevent the adhesive from sticking to itself and reduces contamination.

Handle the film carefully to avoid:

• Creasing

• Folding

• Scratching

• Stretching

• Touching the adhesive with dirty hands

• Dropping the film on dirty surfaces

Step 5: Position the Tint on the Glass

Place the wet adhesive side of the film onto the wet glass.

Carefully slide the pre-cut tint into position. Align the film with the window edges and make sure it sits properly before applying pressure.

Because the tint is computer-cut, less trimming may be needed, but small adjustments may still be necessary depending on the vehicle, glass shape, seals, or installer preference.

Step 6: Squeegee Out Water and Air

Once the film is positioned correctly, begin squeegeeing from the center outward.

Use firm, even pressure to remove water and air from under the film. Work carefully around edges and corners.

Take your time. Rushing this step can lead to bubbles, fingers, lifting edges, or trapped moisture.

Step 7: Heat Shrink When Needed

Some curved windows, especially back glass and certain side windows, may require heat shrinking.

Use a heat gun carefully to shrink the film so it conforms to the shape of the glass. Do not overheat the film, as too much heat can damage or distort it.

Heat shrinking takes practice. If you are not experienced, professional installation is recommended.

Step 8: Final Check and Drying Time

After installation, check all edges, corners, and surfaces.

Look for:

• Bubbles

• Water pockets

• Dust or debris

• Lifting edges

• Misalignment

• Creases or marks

Some haziness or small moisture pockets may appear after installation and can improve as the tint dries. Drying time can vary depending on temperature, humidity, film type, and vehicle conditions.

Avoid rolling down windows until the film has had enough time to dry properly.

• Work in a clean, dust-free area.

• Keep hands and tools clean.

• Do not install in direct wind or dusty conditions.

• Do not rush the cleaning process.

• Use enough slip solution.

• Test-fit each piece before final installation.

• Be careful around defroster lines.

• Do not force the film into place.

• Allow proper drying time after installation.

Common Installation Mistakes to Avoid

Avoid these common problems:

• Installing on dirty glass

• Touching the adhesive side with dirty hands
